The 1-Wire magnetic reader is a unique device designed to hold a magnetic keychain in place by a magnetic force. The housing is constructed of non-magnetic metal, which has a round, flat face at the front and, in the middle of this face, a spring insulated pin (which acts as a contact). In the magnetic probe there are small magnets that create the required magnetic field. This attracts the magnetic metals, and then pulls and holds them on the front face. On the back of the probe there is a solder lug (for 0V signal).
The magnetic keychain consists of a nickel-plated steel ring embedded on an iButton and inserted into a plastic keychain. When this keychain is brought closer to the front face of the magnetic probe, it is attracted to the front of the reader by the magnetic force exerted on the steel ring and held firmly in place. The reader can be mounted on any panel using an M8 nut. A second nut is used to hold its lug in place.
While held in place by the magnetic force, the center contact (spring-loaded pin) transfers the signal (data) read by the iButton to a wire welded to an insulated pin on the back of the probe. The steel ring, which touches the front face of the probe, transfers the 0V signal to a soldered wire to a soldered lug on the back of the probe (the probe housing acts as a ground).
iButton readers can be easily integrated with our CPUs SlimLineusing the DS9097U adapter or directly on CPUs with 1-wire interface, using the "sOWRdIdentifier" function block.
Applications
The magnetic reader can be used in any application that requires reading or writing an iButton for an extended (i.e. not instantaneous) period of time. Some examples of these applications include:
